March 9, 2025

Amazing trade skills are being displayed in Chilliwack at the Skills Canada BC’s 2025 Upper Fraser Valley Regional Competition.

Hosted by the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) this year, around 90 students from Hope, Agassiz, Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission, and Langley have been participating in the Thursday competition (Feb. 27) since 8 a.m.

This year the students are participating in eight categories: architectural computer aided design (CAD), automotive service, cabinetmaking, carpentry, culinary arts, electrical wiring, mechanical CAD, and welding. The architectural category is further divided into the secondary level and postgraduate level.

Of the participants, two Grade 11 students from Hope Secondary School (HSS), Connor Hidalgo and Maddie Scherle, are competing in the culinary arts category.
