Langley youth mentorship program celebrates in September

September 25, 2024

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month and the local program is using it to spotlight the work it does for youth.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley staff and volunteers gathered at Langley City hall for a brief ceremony and flag raising Friday, Sept. 13.

“It has a strong impact in our community,” said executive director Roslyn Henderson.

She said having a special month is meant to spotlight the work mentors do with local young people, more than 450 locally.

In addition to one-on-one mentoring, the local group offers in-school mentoring as well as the program Game On for boys and Go Girl for girls. They focus on physical activity, self-esteem, life skills, and emotional health. School’s Out Explorations allows kids to explore creative activities while School’s Out Multi-Sport Explorations allows kids to try out many different sports.
