COMMUNITY CALENDAR: Langley’s autumn happenings

Community Harvest: Langley Environmental Partners Society (LEPS) would like to hear from people with fruits and vegetables to donate to the gleaning program. People with too much produce get it harvested by volunteers. One third goes to the owner, one third to the volunteer and one third to people in need. Reduces food waste. Scarecrow Festival: Until Halloween, people can enjoy the festival and pop-up pumpkin patch at Art’s Nursery, 8940 192 St. Unique scarecrows on display, including the upcycle challenge scarecrows, along with lots of photo opps in the patch, and on weekends food trucks and live music. Proceeds support Inclusion Langley Society, Metro Vancouver Parks Foundation, Surrey Food Bank, and Orphaned Wild Life (OWL). OWL on site noon to 3 p.m. on Oct. 27. Info: artsnursery.com.

Table Talks Aldergrove: Public invited to evening to learn and discuss the drug crisis including causes, stigma, and more. Session is Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre, 26770 29 Ave. Includes dessert. Hosted by the Langley Overdose Response Community Action Team (LCAT).

Langley Field Naturalists: Wim Vesseur leads a walk along the Houston Trail at Derby Reach Regional Park on Thursday, Oct. 17. Public invited to attend. Meet at the Allard Crescent parking lot at 9 a.m. The 4.3-kilometre walk features a mix of tree species as well as birds and other wildlife, plants, mosses, and lichens. Boot Sale, Market, and Repair Cafe: St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 20955 Old Yale Rd., has a sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 with vendors, small businesses, crafters, and garage sale sellers, as well as a concession and repair cafe. To have household items fixed at the repair cafe, contact Rob at 778-773-3140. Free but donation accepted. Final one for 2024 is Oct. 19.
