Chamber Partners with Langley Local Immigration Partnership on “Langley’s Workforce Future” Series
July 14, 2024
The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Langley Local Immigration Partnership for a new collaboration on a special series of events entitled “Langley’s Workforce Future” which will look to explore the experiences of newcomers, and support ways of helping their successful integration into the local workforce.
23% of Langley’s residents are immigrants and newcomers, and they represent a critical component of our workforce and will play a critical role in addressing labour and skills shortages in the future. That said, in a recent Langley-specific survey, only 48% of immigrant respondents were fully employed, with just 19% working in their respective fields.
“Langley is growing and we have to work to ensure we’re welcoming and successfully integrating newcomers into not just our community, but our workforce as well,” says Cory Redekop, Langley Chamber CEO. “Labour shortages and workforce challenges is still the #2 issue facing our member businesses, and ensuring everyone in Langley can fully participate and reach their potential will be critical to our economic success, and this new partnership is one more way the Chamber can support these efforts.”
